Tong Bai Elephant Tour
The Tong Bai Elephant Tour is an exclusive small group experience. We don’t take more than 9 persons on the tour and the tour is only on Wednesday and Saturday.
The tour is not for those who want to see elephants perform shows, dance and paint pictures. We don’t allow elephant riding. During the bathing you can sit playfully on the back of our elephants but that’s about it.
Your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel at 0830. You will drive to Mae Wang and onwards to Mae Win. Here we will spend most of the day with the elephants of the Tong Bai Foundation. By booking this tour you will contribute automatically to the well-being of the elephants.
The Asian elephant is an endangered species. The number of elephants in Thailand has been going down, mainly due to loss of habitat. Of the approximately 6000 elephants in Thailand about 3000 are so-called “domesticated” elephants. These elephants that live in captivity are still wild animals. You can get close to them but always be very, very careful. Elephants are wild animals. Even in captivity they can be very dangerous.
An elephant expert of the Tong Bai Elephant Foundation will give you a lot of information and answers all your questions regarding the Asian elephant.
We will provide you with trousers and shirts to change into for trekking and bathing with the elephants. A hot shower and towels will also be available for you. Please respect the Thai culture by dressing modestly and consider that bathing in swimsuits is not appropriate. Note that all activities and timings are approximate. Every day is slightly different to the day before depending on the needs of the elephants.
Join us on the Tong Bai Elephant Tour. You will not be disappointed.
