Chiang Mai Elephant Experience
Your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel at 0800 for your Chiang Mai Elephant Experience. In the morning you will visit two elephant hospitals near Lampang. In the afternoon you will visit the atelier of a master elephant woodcarver and the museum of Elephant Parade.
First we will drive to Lampang. About 20 kms before Lampang the hospital of the Friends of the Asian Elephant Foundation(FAE) is located. It is the home of Mosha and Motala. Mosha and Motala are both elephant landmine survivors. Mosha stepped on a landmine in 2006 when she was only 7-months old. In 2008, she received the world’s first elephant prosthetic, designed by Dr. Jivacite. You will meet Mosha and learn about elephants in general and about the work of this remarkable hospital. You will see a short video about Mosha and Motala. Soraida Salwala founded FAE in 1993 and has worked tirelessly for the improvement of living conditions of elephant since then. After this we will visit the Thai Elephant Conservation Center (TECC) which is next door. Your guide will explain about the history and the mission of TECC. We will visit the hospital and the elephant nursery where you can interact with several mothers and their babies. You can feed them as well. After this we will watch the elephant show which starts at 1100. Before lunch will visit the place where elephant dung is being made into paper…Very interesting. We will have lunch at the center. After lunch we will watch the elephants take a bath.
Drive back to Chiang Mai. We will stop briefly at a very interesting market. Then we will pay a visit to Ban Chang Nak, a museum and atelier founded by famous Thai artist Phetch Viriya. Petch is a master carver of wooden elephants. Ban Chang Nak is home to hundreds of beautiful wooden elephants and elephants, made of other materials, created by local artists. In front of the house there is a replica mammoth made from thousands of wood chips. After this drive to Elephant Parade House. Here you can paint your own miniature elephant (not included in the price). Elephant Parade Staff will assist you in painting your own little Elephant Parade elephant, which you can bring home afterwards. A fun and creative activity that will guarantee a great afternoon. Workshops last about 1 hour and include a miniature elephant, materials like paint and an Elephant Parade apron. Return to the hotel at 1700. It is the end of your Chiang Mai Elephant Experience.
