Chiang Dao East trekking area
Location of Chiang Dao East
Chiang Dao East is an area east of road no.107, from Chiang Mai to Fang. It is about 70 kms from Chiang Mai, a drive of around 1,5 hours.
Chiang Dao East area borders the Sri Lanna National Park and it’s very close to the Chiang Dao Wildlife Sanctuary. The Sri Lanna National Park was declared a protected area in 1989 making it the 60th national park of Thailand. It covers about 1400 square kilometers in the Mae Taeng, Phrao and Chiang Dao districts of Chiang Mai province.
The Chiang Dao East area is the most suitable for families with younger children and for first time trekkers. There are many villages, many trails and the trails are not too steep. Most villages are accessible by car year round. We can be very flexible here. We offer a wide array of programs in this area.
Although the villages often receive guests the local tribes are still very welcoming.
Very popular is the two day family trekking of which there also a one day variety. We offer several private trekkings in this area:
Two days Palong Trekking Adventure
Three days Tribal Culture of Chiang Dao
All these treks are also available as private departures.
On the way to Chiang Dao it is possible to visit elephant camps, make elephant rides and do either bamboo or rubber boat (white water) rafting on the Taeng River (Mae Taeng). It is also possible to combine the trekking here with kayaking on the Ping River, cycling or a zipline adventure.
There are villages of Palong, Karen, Lahu and Akha tribes in the Chiang Dao East area. Especially the Palong villages are of interest here are as there are not many Palong villages in Northern Thailand.
Doi Luang Chiang Dao, Chiang Dao Cave and Wat Tham Pha Plong are in the vicinity of the Chiang Dao East area.
There are a couple of waterfalls in the area as well.
There is an interesting Royal Project in the Palong village Pang Daeng Nai.
