Yaana Ventures Corporate Bicycle Challenge

Green Trails will participate in the inaugural Yaana Ventures Corporate Bicycle Challenge. YAANA Ventures, in partnership with Grasshopper Adventures, will launch a corporate bike tour challenge this September in Vietnam. This is a corporate networking and fundraising event dedicated to promoting sustainability.

The objective of the annual bike tour challenge is to bring together progressive corporate managers to have a lot of fun and soak in amazing scenery while they push themselves mentally and physically and make an impact in promoting sustainability and raising funds for a worthy cause. We will cycle from Quinhon to Hoi An. We will start in Quinhon on September 9 and will end in Hoi An on September 11. We are really looking forward to this extraordinary adventure. Proceeds will go to Operation Smile.

Operation Smile

What is Operation Smile about? Did you know that every three minutes a child is born with a cleft. Operation Smile believes every child deserves exceptional surgical care. They believe all children deserve to be treated as if they were our own. That’s what drives each and every one of Operation Smile: a global network of medical professionals, who donate hundreds of thousands of hours toward the care of children around the world each year, and supporters of Operation Smile who are moved every day to make a difference in the lives of children they’ve never met.
Operation Smile was founded in 1982 when Dr. William (Bill) P. Magee, Jr., a plastic surgeon, and his wife, Kathleen (Kathy), a nurse and clinical social worker, traveled to the Philippines with a group of medical volunteers to repair children’s cleft lips and cleft palates.
What they found was overwhelming. “People pushed their babies at us.” recalls Kathy. “They tugged at our sleeves with tears in their eyes and begged us to help their children.” In Naga City, approximately 300 families arrived hoping their children would receive surgery, but the team could only treat 40 children. As they prepared to leave, the Magees made a promise they would return to help more children.

They began soliciting donations of surgical equipment and supplies from manufacturers, threw themselves into grassroots fundraising and assembled a volunteer team of 18 doctors, nurses and technicians for their own medical mission to the Philippines.  They helped approximately 100 more patients, but again, hundreds still waited. They saw the need and Operation Smile was born. Thanks Mark Remijan of Yaana Ventures for organising this event.
